The Swim-A-Thon is sponsored by USA Swimming, the
organization that sets standards and goals for competitive swimming
in the USA. A total of 5% of our money raised helps fund them
so they can continue at the governing structure for all local and
national swim competitions.
The coaches use the Swim-A-Thon as an essential training tool, so
EVERY swimmer is
expected to participate in the actual swimming of this event.
This includes swimmers who do not choose to participate in the
fundraising portion of the event.
Swimmers receive a Swim-A-Thon fundraising packet at fall
registration. Swimmers request pledges per length (maximum of
200 lengths in two hours), or by a set amount. They must then
record them on the pledge sheet. After the event, the swimmer
returns to the person or business. He or she describes the
accomplishment, collects the money, gives a receipt for the amount
and turns both the pledge sheet and money in on the specific dates
listed. All of the donations collected by the
swimmer are creditted to the swimmer's fundraising obligation.
We ask that all swimmers please sign up for the businesses they
intend to solicit. The business signup book is found by the
mailboxes at the end of the bleachers. If there’s a
business not listed on the forms that you want to seek a pledge
from, please fill the name and location in on the blank spaces
provided. Show respect for a business. ONLY ONE SWIMMER PER
BUSINESS. There are a few corporate sponsors that have
already given a lump sum of money to the team. These
companies will be listed on the business forms but
will specifically say, "CURRENTLY SUPPORTING - DO NOT
SOLICIT." Not under any
circumstances are we to request support from these companies.
A business or individual who
sponsors $100 or more will have their name inscribed on the Swim A
Thon thank you plaque displayed at the pool.
Each swimmer should bring a water bottle to sip on during their
swim and a parent to count lengths for them. Chairs,
clipboards, stopwatches, and tally sheets will be available at the
pool.
