Records Fall at Howard Jones Memorial Swim Meet

The Canby Gators attended two Howard Jones Memorial swim meets June 17th to the 20th at Mt. Hood Community College.  Mt. Hood Community College has two competition pools; an outdoor 50 meter pool and an indoor 25 yard pool.  This allowed for two meets to happen at the same time. Canby Gators competed in both meets and earned best times, new team records, state qualifying times and top 8 finishes.

Noah Norris set two new team records for the Canby Gators.  He set a new record in the 11-12 boys 50 free with a time of 28.82 and a new record in the 100 free with a time of 1:03.90. The previous records were held by Spencer Polack and Brandan Mantei. 

Eight Gators swam to state qualifying times at Mt. Hood.  Kaitlyn Hester earned a state time in the 100 fly.  Erin Meredith swam to a state time in the 50 back.  Alisha Issa earned state marks in the 50 free and100 free. Amanda Moses swam to state times in the 50 free and the 100 free. Zach Scroggy earned state qualifying times in the 50 free and 400 free.  Samantha Smith earned state times in the 1500 free, 200 fly, 100 free, 200 IM, 100 fly and the 400 IM.  Casey O’Brien had state qualifying swims in the 50 free, 100 breast stroke, 200 breast stroke and the 100 fly.  Casey also swam to a Senior Sectional time in the 100 meter breast stroke with the time of 1:12.54, a personal best time and only one second off the team record.

Gators with all best times in the meets were Trystan Given, Carrie Kralovec, Carson Manning, Halley Becker, Brandon Berthrong, Rachel McKenzie, Erin Meredith, Madeline Meredith, Sara Norris, Wesley Norris, Alex Olson, Amy Sanftleben, Jarod Spencer and Hayden White.  Other Gators significant time drops and swims.  Jessie Thompson dropped 30 seconds in the 100 IM.  Tom Shanks had two strong swims, the 50 free and the 50 back. Zach Scroggy had best times in eight of his nine swims. Veronica Norris dropped time in six of eight swims and Amanda Moses had best times seven of nine swims. 

Canby Swimmers finishing in the top 8 individually were; Carrie Kralovec, Amanda Moses, Noah Norris, Casey O’Brien, Samantha Smith, Brandon Berthrong, Leah Halderman, Michael Haring, Olivia McKenzie, Madeline Meredith, Sara Norris, Wesley Norris, and Hayden White. 

The Canby Swim Club will be up next July 10th and 11th at 10 and under state in Albany and the State Games of Oregon in Gresham.
