Three Canby Gators team records
fell at the Mt. Hood Aquatics short course invitational January
16-17 at Mt Hood Community College. Samantha Smith and Noah Norris
each broke records at Mt. Hood. Thirteen Gators earned state
qualifying times at the meet and fifteen swam to all best times.
With so many Canby swimmers earning best times it was no surprise
their were twenty-eight who scored individually for the
Gators.
Samantha Smith earned two team records in the
400 IM. Her time of 4:45.43 was enough to eclipse the 15-18 and
Open records for that event. Noah Norris broke the 11-12 boys 50
free record with a time of 25.32. The 50 free record was previously
held by senior swimmer teammate Spencer Polack who set the record
in 2003.
Swimmers with all best times were: Brandon
Berthrong, Savannah Cruthers, Alex Hendrick, Kylie Hester, Alisha
Issa, Olivia McKenzie, Rachel McKenzie, Erin Meredith, Dean
Mischell, Amanda Moses, Ava Mundy, Sarah Norris, Wesley Norris,
Alex Olson and Tomas Shanks. Halley Becker swam the 100 breast for
the first time and Clayton Tabelle swam the 100 IM for the first
time.
Canby
Gators earning state qualifying times were: Michael Hargitt who
swam six state times, the 400 IM, 200 breast, 100 back, 200 back,
200 IM, and 100 breast. Michael Haring swam to a state time in the
100 back. Alex Hendrick earned a state time in the 100 back, Alisha
Issa finished with state times in the 100 IM, 100 free, 50 fly, 50
free and the 50 breast. Dean Mischell earned three state times, the
100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. Noah Norris swam to six state
times, the 200 free, 100 IM, 100 free, 200 IM, 50 free and the 50
breast. Casey O’Brien earned five state times, the 100 free,
200 breast 200 IM, 50 free and 100 breast. Spencer Polack qualified
for state in the 200 free, 100 back and the 200 fly. Zachary

100 fly, 200 IM, 200 fly and 100 breast. Luke Welle earned state
times in the 100 fly, 200 free, and 200 IM. Amanda Moses earned her
first state time in the 50 fly. Six year old Kylie Hester swam to
her first state qualifying time in the 8 and under 50
back.

were: Michael Hargitt, Alisha Issa, Dean Mischell, Noah Norris,
Casey O’Brien, Zachary Scroggy, Samantha Smith and Thomas
Shanks who won the 8 and under 50 back.
One more note.
I neglected to check team records after the Animal Meet and found a
couple meet records while researching for the Mt. Hood meet. At the
Animal Meet Zach Scroggy broke the 10 and under 200 IM record in a
time of 2:44.05, held previously by Flurry Stone who set the record
in 1991. Michael Hargitt broke his own 400 IM records for 15-18 and
Senior Boys. The time of 4:15.50 bettered the time by six
seconds.
